Breaking Isolation, Building Communities & Assessing our Resources for LGBTQ Communities in Appalachia

The Out in the South: Central Appalachia project is a partnership between the Appalachian Community Fund, Funders for LGBTQ Issues & LGBTQIA community members across the region. This session will offer reflections & documentation of what community members at four state gatherings & one regional gathering in 2017 had to say about surviving & thriving in their communities, and our collective hope for the future.

We also will offer examples of place-based fundraising strategies for LGBTQIA communities that are being implemented already & potential to expand. Our current work includes another series of state-based gatherings; expansion of our regional network online & in person; and trainings & workshops about fundraising strategies to enhance resources for LGBTQIA communities in Appalachia.

Funder's for LGBTQ Issues sponsors The Out in the South Funding Initiative, which supports building & expanding funding infrastructure for LGBTQ communities across the south. In 2016, The STAY Project & Appalachian Community Fund partnered with Robin Carton, funding consultant to implement the first Phase of the Project. Kendall Bilbrey will continue as Project Director in 2017-2018 along with Appalachian Community Fund, Robin Carton, and the growing network of LGBTQIA Appalachians!
